It Will Break My Heart

Today Michael and I took the kids out for dinner down in Fruitvale, Oakland. Along the road we passed "Yes on 8" signs sprinkled between the Obama signs. It will break my heart if the incredible job we Obama supporters did registering traditionally disenfranchised groups results in the passing of this cruel malignancy of a proposition. I'll tell you what is a threat to my marriage -- others trying to take the right to wed away. The people who oppose Prop 8 are, by and large, old and getting older, and soon their bigotry will pass the way of the dinosaurs. That's why they're trying to enshrine their prejudice in the Constitution, first of California, then of the United States.

Zeke, sitting next to me as I watched this video, whispered, "We have got to win this thing." My eleven-year-old knows good from evil, right from wrong. I hope the rest of the state does.

ps. Sorry about the awful schmaltzy song.
