A good friend forwarded me this email from his daughter, and I'm just going to paste it in verbatim.

Subject: DJ attacks on transgendered children.
To: Dad and MomHello mom and dad. So you guys know that I really tend to stay away from political activism. Most of the time I just don't have the energy to fight an endless number of battles for every little offensive slight that minorities face on a daily basis. But this is really important to me.
On May 28th these DJs for a radio station in Sacramento pretty much laid into transgendered children--not teenagers, not adults, CHILDREN--and said just about the most horrible things you could ever say about kids. They called transgendered kids weird, idiots, freaks, advocated beating or verbally abusing them, and said that society would beat them down. I won't even try to explain all of it. This article pretty much sums up the whole thing.
I really haven't been so sickened ever before by anybody expressing their opinion about a controversial topic. But this seems to me to be more than an opinion. They're advocating rejection and mistreatment and frankly ABUSE of minors, of people's own sons and daughters, on public radio.
GLAAD, the Gay and Lesbian Alliance Against Defamation, has put up a page about the issue. They have contact information for KRXQ's Vice President & General Manager, as well as the two DJs who made the nasty comments.
I'm going to take the time to write an email to the station's VP, and possibly the DJs too. I would really appreciate it if you guys would think about doing the same. I'd also really appreciate it if you guys sent this around to people you know who you think would listen, because I wish this would get more attention than it is. It's one thing to attack the choices of adults. It's another to attack children. I want people to know about it, and I want the radio station to hear from people who understand just how disgustingly their DJs acted.
I really hope you guys will take the time to pay attention to this, even though I know you have a ton of other demands on your attention too.
When I clicked the link to the radio show, it seemed like there was a semi-happy ending to that jaw-dropping story.
