Drug Policy Alliance
The Drug Policy Alliance is a policy research institute founded in 1994 that focuses on broadening the debate on drug policy and related issues. The Alliance houses a library and information center, organizes seminars and conferences, acts as a link between scholars, government and the media, directs a grants program in central and eastern Europe and undertakes projects on special topics such as methadone policy reform and alternatives to drug testing in the workplace. The guiding principle of the center is harm reduction, an alternative approach to drug policy and treatment that focuses on minimizing the adverse effects of both drug use and drug prohibition. Particular attention is focused on analyzing the experiences of foreign countries in reducing drug-related harms.

Families Against Mandatory Minimums
Families Against Mandatory Minimums (FAMM) is a national nonprofit organization founded in 1991 to challenge the inflexible and excessive penalties required by mandatory sentencing laws. FAMM promotes sentencing policies that give judges the discretion to distinguish between defendants and sentence them according to their role in the offense, seriousness of the offense and potential for rehabilitation. FAMM's 25,000 members include prisoners and their families, attorneys, judges, criminal justice experts and concerned citizens. FAMM does not argue that crime should go unpunished - but the punishment must fit the crime.

Legal Services for Prisoners with Children
LSPC advocates for the civil rights and empowerment of incarcerated parents, their children and family members, and people at risk for incarceration. LSPC provides information, trainings, technical assistance, and legal representation. Their focus is on women prisoners and their families, and we emphasize that issues of race are central to any discussion of incarceration.

About-Face
A San Francisco-based non-profit group that combats negative and distorted images of women in the media and promotes positive self-esteem in girls and women of all ages, sizes, races and backgrounds through a spirited approach to media education, outreach and activism.
